Said fuel injection valve (1) comprises an excitable actuator (10), a valve needle (3) that is effectively connected to the actuator (10), is impinged upon by a return spring (23) in a closing direction, and actuates a valve closing member (4) which forms a sealing seat along with a valve seat area (6) embodied on a valve seat member (5), and at least two spray ports that are configured inside the valve seat member (5). A coating (38) is embodied on an external face (37) of the valve seat member (5), which faces the combustion chamber (36) of the internal combustion engine, and/or the maximum number of spray ports (7) provided is eight, and/or a distance between the valve closing member (4) and the valve seat member (5) is smaller than 20 µm, and/or the spray ports (7) expand in a fuel-spraying direction.

According to said method, an injection duration (ti) is determined from a required quantity of fuel (rw_k) and a required injection duration (ti_erf) is determined from said required quantity of fuel (rw_k). When the required injection duration (ti_erf) is in the range between the lower threshold (ti_min) and the upper threshold (ti_max) an injection duration (ti_aus) with a value outside the range between the lower threshold (ti_min) and the upper threshold (ti_max) is output.
